@La Maganette - Alfredo De LaFe

Looking for a hotspot in NYC? We’ll you need look no further than “La Maganette”; an oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of New York City.  It is here that on Wednesdays and Sundays you’ll find a taste of the best New York has to offer in Latin Jazz and Salsa.

Today the featured artist: Mr. Alfredo De LaFe (Violinist) and his Orchestra. In case you did not know, Alfredo holds the distinction of being the first solo violinist to perform with a Salsa Orchestra, and has toured the world more than thirty times, appearing in concert and participating in more than one hundred albums by such top-ranked Latin artists Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Jose Alberto "El Canario," Cheo Feliciano, The Fania All Stars and Santana to name a few.

While the band was setting up, we decided to browse around and see who else of notable worth was in the audience. Much to our delight present at today’s performance is Mr. Joe Bataan, whom graciously agreed to grant us an interview at a later time; thanks Joe, we look forward to the interview.

It’s often the time that while covering an event, I run into other artists that have been featured in the past and whom have grown to become friends of Enbreve; today would be no exception. For chatting with Jimmy Bosch was no other than Victor Martinez and George Palleja; Jimmy is a machine, the man has it going on; tight music, great rhythms. Always the consummate businessman, Jimmy was there promoting his new CD; we debuted a sampling of this CD and we don’t want to spoil the surprise, all we can say is that we highly recommend it.

And as De LaFe kicks off with his electric violin, the Orchestra joins in, and the rich harmonies meld into an exquisite sound that produce a seemingly hypnotic rhythmic wave that induces  the audience;  an involuntary migration towards the dance floor.

La Maganette is known for having World Class Salsa/Mambo dancers; if you don't believe me, get down there and see for yourself.  After the first set, I was able to sit down with Alfredo for a brief chat and the one thing he expressed was that performing in the states makes you feel very much at home but performing abroad creates a slight clash of cultures and there's no place like N.Y.C.

We thank Mr. Alfredo DeLa Fe for his spectacular talent and his contributions which have become inherent parts of both the Salsa and Latin Jazz world; a legacy that lives on. We look forward to your next New York City performance, keep in touch. To our readers, we pose the question:  Is Mr. Alfredo De La Fe inducted into the Salsa Hall of Fame? If you know the answer, email me: elvin@enbreve.com  or If he's not, should he be inducted?  Let me know your thoughts.

Well my people, I bid you a good evening until next time. Please write to us and tell us of a recent outing with friends or family you might want to share with our readers. Thank you to all members for your involvement with our site. E-mail us at Enbreve and say hi or to send a shout out to someone.
