What happens when you get two close friends who have a heart of gold to host an evening at the Metropol?

El Metropol, Fajardo, Puerto Rico

So here's the scoop.. Our new Puerto Rico correspondent, Yasmin Cordova, invited us down so that we could experience "La Isla Del Encanto" from her vantage point; we took her up on it and much to our surprise. On a main road that few tourist travel unless they destination is "El Conquistador" or "The Wyndam Rio Mar" we met, now mind you this is about 45 minutes of driving from San Juan. El Metropol is probably known to some of you for their location in Isla Verde, but at this location it is reminiscent of our favorite place "Willie's Steak House"; where local folk gather for some good sounds and great conversation. This night was one of those nights as unbeknownst to us there would be a group playing and yes Yasmin and our newly made friend Nena (pronounced Nenah) greeted us like family and ensure that we had a good time. There is nothing like good hospitality, and as you may be aware in Puerto Rico it reigns. Thanks guys!!

The music of the duo's or trios (bohemia) has always been a source of inspiration to me personally, as the jazz like progressions stir memories of days gone by; my family dancing up a storm while us kids played in the other room.

Bohemia is a reflection of our Puerto Rican soul and a music that everyone enjoys listening to. The group that played was a duo and there music was right on beat, tight, and the vocals were excellent. But more importantly so, we were able to still hold conversations with our newly found friends and before long we had a table full of people. I am still wondering about the amount of beer bottles on the table vs. the bill. I personally enjoyed the level of depth of the conversation that took place as we were philosophizing over the fate of the last gubernatorial elections. We'll just leave it at that by the way who finally won that race?

We closed down the place and of course headed out to dance some merengue at Sharky's; all ten of us. If you are in Fajardo, we definitely recommend a Friday night at the Metropol. If you are into the merengue dance scene, ask someone where Sharky's is? The night was an excellent launch to the annual road trip here at enbreve. Here are some of the pictures of the friends made on that trip and the partying that took place. And as for Yasmin she can contribute article anytime, and we are eager to get some of her material to publish for future editions of Enbreve Latin Jazz.

My favorite bar on Palomino IslandCan you say Raggeaton? Private DJ, 48 foot boat, plenty of dancing!Me resting and taking in the sights.
